How to transfer my domain name?

Transferring your domain name to a new provider is very easy. We explain how that works exactly.

1. Register your domain name with a new provider

To start your transfer, order the domain name from your new provider. If you want to switch to $$BrandName$$, you can order the domain name via our website. The system will recognize that the domain name you are looking for is already taken, so you can choose to “move”.

Provide your transfer code during the ordering process to make it clear that your domain name may be moved. This is possible in the final step of the ordering process. You can also e-mail this code to $$BrandEmailActivation$$ afterwards .

Check the owner’s name

Before you complete the order, check the details of the owner. For this we use the input of the billing data as standard. If necessary, adjust it for free in the final step of the ordering process (see screenshot).

Transfer a .BE domain name

Confirm the move in the automatic e-mail

After requesting the transfer of a .be domain name, an automatic e-mail is sent to the e-mail address of the domain name holder. This e-mail is from noreply@dns.be.

Confirm the transfer of your domain name to the new provider via this e-mail.

Alternative: request a transfer code

If this is not possible, you can always request a transfer code via dns.be.

  1. Search for your domain name there. It will appear as “no longer available”
  2. Click on “WHOIS” to consult the information about your domain name
  3. On that page you can request a transfer code for your domain name
  4. Send the transfer code to $$BrandEmailActivation$$ to finalize the move

These domain names require 2 additional steps:

  1. Unlock your domain name with your current provider. That is usually a setting in the control panel of your current provider. If necessary, contact your provider to unlock your domain name.
  2. After the transfer code has been passed on, you will receive a request via e-mail to confirm the (new) owner data of the domain name. This e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address you entered. Please note, you only have 5 days for this approval!

Once you have ordered the transfer from your new provider, the current provider must confirm the transfer by updating the IPS Tag of the domain name.

Our staff will help you to obtain the IPS Tag so that you can complete the move quickly.

2. Update the DNS settings of your domain name

The transfer of the domain name is actually purely an administrative matter, which has no immediate technical consequences.

But after the move, your previous provider will eventually deactivate the DNS settings of your domain name.

Those DNS settings determine which server is responsible for processing the website and mail traffic for that domain. If the DNS settings are not configured correctly, the e-mail function and website will go offline.

It is therefore important to update this with your new provider so that your website and e-mail continue to work smoothly.
